Jiaxing builds momentum in AI-driven economy

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province is accelerating the development of its AI sector by expanding computing infrastructure and applying smart manufacturing.

In the first quarter of this year, 232 AI-related enterprises in the city generated 20.92 billion yuan ($3.07 billion), up 24.7 percent year-on-year and accounting for 10.8 percent of the province's total.

At the Light of Wuzhen supercomputing center in Tongxiang, the province's only facility of its kind, massive computing resources are supporting large AI model training across the Yangtze River Delta region. Meanwhile, at a smart solar manufacturing factory operated by Astronergy in Haining, more than 200 automated guided vehicles handle material transport, with AI visual inspection systems that identify product defects with an accuracy rate of 99.7 percent.

Jiaxing has become one of Zhejiang's major hubs for computing power. The city was designated Zhejiang's first 10,000-card computing cluster city in 2024, referring to a supercomputing system that links 10,000 or more AI accelerator chips. Its computing capacity under construction or already in operation now accounts for more than 60 percent of the province's total.

The city is also developing a low-latency computing network and was selected for a national pilot program this year that promotes "millisecond-level" computing services, allowing users to access computing resources with lower latency.

Jiaxing plans to further expand its AI sector under the AI Plus action plan, developing 100 benchmark AI enterprises, 100 application scenarios, and 100 high-quality datasets by 2027, while pushing total industry revenue beyond 100 billion yuan.
