Six newly built berths in the Dushan port area in Pinghu, a county-level city in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, passed official inspection and acceptance on June 24, marking the launch of the city's first fully automated container terminal and expanding the port area's total number of berths to 22.

Four of the berths form the core of Jiaxing Port's first smart sea-river intermodal transport project. Using 5G and BeiDou technologies, the terminal enables remote-controlled and automated container handling.

The new facilities are expected to add annual handling capacity of 1.25 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) and 3.08 million metric tons of general cargo, strengthening logistics links across the Yangtze River Delta region.

Two additional berths are dedicated to liquid bulk cargo. Designed for chemicals such as methanol, ethylene glycol, and paraxylene, the facilities have a combined annual handling capacity of 5.07 million tons.

Unlike traditional transfer operations, the liquid cargo berths are directly connected to nearby chemical industrial parks through closed pipeline systems, improving efficiency while reducing logistics costs and safety risks.

The new berths will enhance the Dushan port area's role as a key sea-river transport hub in northern Zhejiang and support the development of advanced manufacturing and chemical industries in the region.
