Two universities in Ningbo have earned spots in the ShanghaiRanking's 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), highlighting the city's growing strength in higher education and research.

Ningbo University once again made the list, breaking into the global top 400 after climbing 100 places from last year. Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, established last year, made its debut in the ranking and entered the global top 700.

ShanghaiRanking's ARWU is the first comprehensive global university ranking in the world. It evaluates research universities using objective, internationally comparable indicators, including Nobel and Fields Medal winners, highly cited researchers, papers published in Nature and Science, and academic performance.

This year, 234 universities from the Chinese mainland were included, with 16 entering the global top 100.

Ningbo University has made major strides in research. Last month, two projects led by the university received a first-place National Science and Technology Progress Award and a second-place National Technology Invention Award.

Meanwhile, Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo has quickly emerged as a new research powerhouse, with 119 full-time independent principal investigators, including 16 academicians and 69 national-level talents.
