Jin Haifeng, a teacher at Shangyu Special Education School in Shaoxing, East China's Zhejiang province, has been helping conduct epidemiological surveys involving people with hearing disabilities.

On the early morning of Dec 19, Jin received a request from the local epidemic control center to help communicate with a resident who has hearing problems so as to help staff determine the places the man had visited in recent days.

The resident is over 70 years old and his sign language includes slang that only exists in the Shaoxing dialect.

Jin had to take photos of the sign languages which he found difficult to understand before decoding them with the help of natives.

Over the past few days, Jin has provided interpretation for five people with hearing or speaking disorders who are part of the epidemiological survey.
