Shaoxing athlete bears torch for Beijing Winter Paralympics

Jiang Yuyan, a female athlete from Shaoxing, East China's Zhejiang province, was among the torchbearers for the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games, on March 1.

"I'm so proud to be one of the torchbearers for the Beijing Winter Paralympics. I feel more obliged to carry forward the Olympic spirit," said Jiang.

Jiang claimed two swimming gold medals at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021. She broke the world record with a time of 5 minutes 4.57 seconds in the women's 400-meter freestyle S6 competition.

The 17-year-old girl lost her right arm and right leg in a car accident at the age of 4. She started learning swimming at the age of 8.

She has so far won medals in the national para games, the Asian Para Games and the Paralympics, and inspired many others with her will to go beyond the limits created by her disability.

Jiang is currently preparing for the upcoming Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
