Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province recently launched a week-long activity to mark the 300-day countdown to the 19th Asian Games.

The activity, which concluded on Nov 27, saw 800 citizens release fish fries into a river after finishing a 5-km run.

Releasing aquatic life to rivers is an effective measure to restore natural aquatic resources and improve the ecological environment, according to an official at the Shaoxing Water Control Office.

A participant surnamed Jin said he was glad to be able to contribute his part to water environmental protection in the city, which is set to host the 19th Asian Games.

The 19th Asian Games has been rescheduled to be held from Sept 23 to Oct 8, 2023, with Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang, being the main venue.

Shaoxing will host five events - volleyball, basketball, rock climbing, baseball and softball – at the Games, more than any other co-host cities. It has also been tasked to provide training grounds for football players at the Games.
