Digital economy gains steam in Shaoxing

Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province was recently ranked 37th on the 2022 list of the top 100 cities in China in terms of digital economic development, according to a report.

The ranking was made by CCID Consulting, a firm affiliated with a think tank under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The firm evaluated the advanced manufacturing sector of 293 prefecture-level cities nationwide based on innovation capacity, integrated development, economic strength, and brand quality.

Beijing topped the list, followed by Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Suzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing and Wuhuan.

Eight cities from Zhejiang made the list, with Hangzhou, Ningbo and Wenzhou claiming the top three places.

Shaoxing moved up 11 slots from last year to 37th, an indication of the robust growth in the city's digital economy over the past year.

The added value of the core industries of the digital economy in the city hit 26.57 billion yuan ($3.8 billion) in 2021. The added value has grown at an average annual growth rate of more than 18 percent since 2018, official statistic show.

Shaoxing's industrial digitalization index currently stands at 98, ranking second in Zhejiang.
