A traditional wedding reenactment held at the Yangming Native Place in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, has sparked nationwide attention, blending historical rituals with modern romance in a cultural experience rooted in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Couples dress in period-accurate attire, ride horseback or travel by bridal sedan, and exchange vows in ceremonies modeled after Ming Dynasty wedding customs.
The experience is set against the backdrop of the birthplace of philosopher Wang Yangming, a leading figure whose ideas of inner morality and action-based ethics remain influential.
The event aims to revive interest in traditional marriage customs and attract cultural tourism. "We want people to experience Chinese wedding traditions not just as history, but as something meaningful and beautiful today," said local authorities.
The ceremony has gained traction on Chinese social media platforms like Xiaohongshu and Douyin, drawing inquiries from couples across the country.
