Shanxiahu, a town in Zhejiang's Zhuji county-level city known as China's pearl capital, is accelerating its global expansion through cross-border e-commerce and international trade.

The town has established a dedicated e-commerce hub, backed by tailored industry policies to support platform development. Major platforms such as Amazon, TikTok, AliExpress, and Wish have been introduced, creating new channels for global sales.

As of 2024, Shanxiahu boasts more than 500 cross-border e-commerce accounts, with sales surpassing 500 million yuan ($69.4 million) for the year.

To further access international markets, the town is investing in shared overseas warehouses for local companies. The goal is to build a streamlined export system — from livestream marketing and platform transactions to overseas distribution — that brings freshwater pearls directly to jewelry boxes around the world.

Shanxiahu has actively promoted its industry on the world stage. Over the past few years, the town has organized delegations to top-tier jewelry exhibitions in cities including Tokyo and Hong Kong. To date, local enterprises have participated in 52 major trade shows, involving over 7,000 company visits and generating more than 8 billion yuan in total sales.

With its global network now spanning over 70 countries and regions, Shanxiahu has evolved from a local manufacturing hub into an international trade player.
