The Celestial Porcelain Sino-French Art Exchange Seminar and the China launch of Horizons Croisés were held at the Shangyu Museum in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province.
Featuring 228 ceramic artworks, the event highlighted the creative energy and cultural dialogue between China and France.
Jean Audouze, former chair of the French National Commission for UNESCO and renowned astrophysicist, joined French artists and Chinese experts — including Bai Ming, professor at Tsinghua University and director of the Shangyu Celadon Contemporary International Ceramic Art Center — for in-depth discussions on artistic collaboration.
Bai said that ceramics can serve as a medium for global artistic dialogue, opening up new possibilities when artists step beyond their familiar creative environments. He also discussed the connection between ceramics and the Earth and reflected on the broader significance of ceramic art, as Chinese and French participants shared their perspectives.
The newly released Horizons Croisés, co-authored by Audouze and Bai, was first conceived eight years ago. In early summer 2017, Audouze made his first visit to the Shangyu Celadon Contemporary International Ceramic Art Center, where he was deeply impressed by China's ancient ceramic craftsmanship.
