On the afternoon of Jan 2, at Jinghu Zhijiang Park in Shaoxing, a reporter placed a mobile order for a hot latte. Shortly afterwards, a drone took off from the top of a smart pickup locker and flew to Shaoxing Place, a large-scale commercial complex several kilometers away. Within half an hour, the drone had returned and landed precisely, delivering the coffee still warm. This marked the city's first drone‑delivered takeout order and the commencement of trial operations for Shaoxing's first approved low‑altitude food delivery route.

The inaugural flight connected Shaoxing Place with Jinghu Zhijiang Park. The route spans a straight‑line distance of about 5 kilometers, which the drone covers in just 8 minutes — faster than ground transport. The model used has a maximum payload of 3 kilograms and is equipped with a dedicated insulated cargo compartment to maintain food temperature.

Addressing public safety concerns, the operator said the route has undergone strict airspace approval, with its planned path actively avoiding high‑rise buildings and densely populated areas. The entire flight is monitored in real time by a control system.

Looking ahead, this "aerial civic service map" is expected to expand from meal delivery to include emergency medicine distribution. Its service coverage may also extend from commercial areas to residential zones, office buildings, and even scenic spots and transportation hubs, contributing to a more efficient urban low‑altitude logistics network.
