Shaoxing University held an unveiling ceremony on April 8, officially marking the renaming of Shaoxing College of Arts and Sciences to Shaoxing University, marking a new milestone in the institution's development.

The university is a full-time comprehensive institution approved by the Ministry of Education. Its origins trace back to the founding of Shankuai Junior Normal School in 1909. Renowned writer Lu Xun once served as the school's principal.

In 1996, Shaoxing Teachers College and Shaoxing College of Higher Education merged to form Shaoxing College of Arts and Sciences. Several secondary vocational schools also joined the university in 2000.

Shaoxing University now has multiple campuses, including the main campus, Lanting campus, Shangyu campus, and Song Liuling campus, with over 19,000 full-time students and nearly 2,000 teaching and administrative staff members.

The renaming of Shaoxing University was the result of years of preparation. The ambition to establish Shaoxing University was first proposed in 2006, with significant progress made in 2019.

The Ministry of Education officially approved the renaming on Feb 4, and it was shortly thereafter confirmed by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government.
