The sixth China Yueju Opera Arts Festival is set to open in Shaoxing on May 15. Hosted by Zhejiang Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province‌, the month-long festival will showcase the 120-year development journey of Yueju Opera.

This year’s festival, aligned with the "Three-Year Action Plan for Opera Vitalization (2026–28)", designates Shaoxing as the main venue, and various counties and districts under its jurisdiction as sub-venues. It will open on May 15 at the Shaoxing Olympic Sports Center and conclude on June 12 in Shengzhou.

The festival will feature outstanding Yueju Opera performances: 12 full-length productions, 13 short plays, and select highlights. These will include original works, classics, and revivals and will be staged across six theaters in Shaoxing.

The festival focuses on youth engagement through online broadcasts, short video showcases, and the launch of eight cultural tourism routes under the theme "Travel with Yueju Opera". There will be a symposium on the development of Yueju Opera, and implementing cultural initiatives to benefit the public by making performances more accessible.

Zhejiang is building a comprehensive ecosystem to promote Yueju Opera, shifting its focus from attracting attention to retaining audiences and driving the innovative development of this traditional art form.
