Zhejiang online retail sales passes trillion-yuan scale, up 33.4 percent

Online retail sales in East China's Zhejiang province reached 1,003.4 billion yuan ($152 billion) in the first 10 months of this year, registering year-on-year growth of 33.4 percent, the provincial department of commerce said in a recent report. 

Zhejiang residents' purchasing power continues to soar. Their online expenditure reached 515 billion yuan from January to October, a year-on-year increase of 32.5 percent. The favorable balance of online retail sales therefore rose to 488.5 billion yuan. 

Commodities such as clothes and fashion, household decorations, and 3C electronics remained popular among Zhejiang residents, with their retail sales increasing by 35.4, 17.0 and 11.0 percent respectively, making up 63.4 percent of total sales in the economy. 

Moreover, the report, which took into account various third-party cross-border e-commerce platforms such as AliExpress, Amazon, eBay and Wish, said Zhejiang's export volumes in e-retailing reached 34.8 billion yuan in the first 10 months of this year, up 38.5 percent. 

Cities of Jinhua, Hangzhou and Wenzhou performed strong on this part, as their local export rose 54.8, 19.1 and 9.4 percent respectively, accounting for 83.3 percent of the province's total.
