East China's Zhejiang province received 22 million tourists over the recent seven-day Spring Festival holiday, up 8.8 percent from last year, according to data from the provincial tourism bureau.

The tourism industry garnered 21.11 billion yuan ($3.33 billion) in revenue during the holiday, up 13.6 percent from last year, the data also revealed.

The most popular destinations were traditional scenic spots such as West Lake, Wuzhen and Mount Putuo. In addition to the existing tourist resources, many festive cultural activities gave tourists a great impression of the province.

Road trips to rural areas, especially homestays in villages and characteristic towns in the suburbs, were popular among citizens from neighboring provinces, according to an online data monitoring platform.

Meanwhile, overseas travel remained popular among Zhejiang people, with Hangzhou and Ningbo ranking fourth and tenth, respectively, on the list of Chinese cities that are most fond of overseas trips.

Data from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport showed that during the Spring Festival holiday, international flights increased nearly 20 percent year-on-year.

This year's Chinese New Year holiday runs from Feb 15 to Feb 21.
