The first World Textile Merchandising Conference, which attracted over 200 textile experts from more than 30 countries and regions, drew to an end in Keqiao district of Shaoxing, Zhejiang province on Sept 21.

The two-day conference provided a platform for Chinese textile insiders and their peers from abroad to discuss the development trends of the industry. It also served as a window through which the outside world could have a better understanding of Keqiao's strengths in this field.

During the conference, a council was established to strengthen the ties between all parties and the district released a program of action for the global development of its textile industry.

"I think Keqiao will open wider to the world and join hands with other countries to realize joint development," said Huang Yanting, chairwoman of Fashion Dream Incubator, a platform for China Textile City, which is based in the district, to expand globally. The incubator plans to introduce over 100 renowned design studios and creative companies to offer new growth drivers for the transformation and upgrading of the local textile sector.

Keqiao will be the permanent host of the world Textile Merchandising Conference, as announced at the first edition, which is considered a recognition of the international status of the district's textile industry.

"We hope the conference can effectively promote the exchanges and cooperation between textile companies from home and abroad, and boost the quality development of the industry around the globe," said an official from the Shaoxing government.
