Hangzhou, Zhejiang University partner on scientific innovation center

Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province inked a cooperative agreement with Zhejiang University, a leading Chinese university, on Feb 28 to jointly build an international scientific innovation center.

Located in Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou, the center aims to inject new impetus into the innovative development of Zhejiang province and support Hangzhou as a world leading innovation hub and a cradle for high-caliber professionals.

The center, which leverages the industrial and resource advantages of Hangzhou and the disciplinary and talent competitiveness of Zhejiang University, will focus on the three areas of material science, information science and life sciences.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Yuan Jiajun, governor of Zhejiang province, said that the center will strive to seek breakthroughs in innovative talent introduction, multidisciplinary research, development of advanced technologies, transformation of scientific and technological achievements and industrialization.

With the joint effort of both sides, the innovation center is expected to contribute to the international development of Hangzhou and facilitate Zhejiang University in becoming a world-class university, said Zhou Jiangyong, Party chief of the capital.
