Sixty out of 63 A-level scenic attractions in Ningbo had resumed operations as of April 22 as the epidemic wanes nationwide. Three remain closed due to construction, according to the Ningbo municipal bureau of culture, radio, film and tourism.

In addition, the city's 87 star hotels, 1,413 homestays, and 329 travel agencies had reopened.

Data from Chinese online travel agencies Crip and Mamengwo show that Ningbo ranked third in the nation in terms of the number of reopened famous scenic attractions.

It also placed third in terms of the recovery index among domestic travel destinations.

The city plans to double down on efforts to spur consumption among local residents, as the international tourism market may take a long time to recover.

It has also launched a campaign to encourage residents to travel to its rural areas.

The campaign, slated to run from late April to the end of May, will involve 24 townships across the city and more than 100 folk activities.

In addition, a series of activities will be organized to encourage tourists to stay at hotels located in scenic attractions.

Also, as a national pilot city for cultural consumption, Ningbo will issue 15 million yuan ($2.17 million) in coupons for the culture and tourism sectors from April to August. Participating enterprises are expected to see 50 million yuan in combined profits.

The coupons will be released in two installments, with the first 10 million yuan being issued at the end of this month and the rest being issued in July.

To date, more than 100 million yuan in coupons have been issued in the city, according to official data.

To welcome the upcoming Labor Day holiday, some virus control measures will remain in place at scenic attractions throughout the city, said an official from the Ningbo municipal bureau of culture, radio, film and tourism.

Visitors are encouraged to make reservations ahead of time and have their temperatures checked before entering.
