Taizhou ranks 10th in air quality nationwide

Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province came in 10th on the air quality rankings for 168 major cities across the country in 2019 recently released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. 

Lhasa topped the list, with the other top 10 cities consisting of Haikou, Zhoushan, Xiamen, Huangshan, Fuzhou, Lishui, Guiyang, Shenzhen. 

Among the 337 cities at the prefecture level or above, the average concentration of PM2.5 was 36 micrograms per cubic meter, the same as last year, while PM10 dropped 1.6 percent year-on-year to 63 micrograms per cubic meter, according to the ministry.

In 2019, the average number of good air quality days in the nation was 299, or 82 percent of the total. 

The number of cities with air quality meeting national standards accounted for 46.6 percent of the total. 

Of the 168 major cities, the ten with the worst air quality were Anyang, Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Handan, Linfen, Tangshan, Taiyuan, Zibo, Jiaozuo and Jincheng.

Air quality continued to improve in the Yangtze River Delta region last year. The average number of good air quality days in 41 cities in the region accounted for 76.5 percent of the total on average. Their average concentration of PM2.5 was 41 micrograms per cubic meter, a yearly decline of 2.4 percent.
