China's Yiwu and Rwanda's Kicukiro district establish partnership

Yiwu, Zhejiang fostered an official partnership with Kicukiro district, Kigali, capital of Rwanda, following the opening ceremony for the 2020 China Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair on Nov 13.

2021 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Rwanda. Yiwu has maintained close ties with Kigali in fields such as trade, tourism, and cultural exchange over the years.

The eWTP Yiwu Global Innovation Center – Rwanda Digital Trading Hub began operating in Kicukiro on Oct 29, 2019, marking a new milestone for cooperation between the two cities.

In November 2019, Lin Yi, the top official in Yiwu, visited the national pavilion of Rwanda during the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai from Nov 5-10 and met with James Kimonyo, Rwanda's Ambassador to China.

In December 2019, Kimonyo visited Yiwu and attended the Yiwu-Rwanda Trade and Investment Promotion Fair.

Kicukiro district is located in southeastern Kigali and known as a logistics hub of Rwanda. The district is home to a thriving market and many industries.
