East China's Zhejiang province was positively mentioned eight times in the work report of the Supreme People's Court and four times in the work report of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, according to Zhejiang Daily.

Both documents were delivered at the just-concluded fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress, which was held in Beijing from March 4 to 11.

Zhejiang has long spearheaded numerous national innovations and experiments in various socioeconomic areas, including jurisdiction.

The work report of the Supreme People's Court praised Zhejiang legal courts' exploration in clearing up personal debts, which provides a second chance for failing, yet honest entrepreneurs.

Zhejiang legal courts, especially those in Wenzhou, Taizhou, and Lishui's Suichang county, have been attempting to build an individual bankruptcy system since 2018.

On the basis of such legal practices, the Zhejiang Provincial Higher People's Court established a working mechanism to clear up personal debts on December 2020, pushing forward a rudimentary system for individual bankruptcy throughout the province and inspiring the country's top legislature to formulate relevant regulations in the future.

In 2020, Zhejiang handled 291 cases involving 495 million yuan ($76.13 million) worth of personal debts and concluded 190 of them.  

The work report of the Supreme People's Procuratorate spoke highly of the efforts made by the procuratorate in Qingtian county to help overseas Chinese lodge complaints through remote video.

The report also praised the Hangzhou procuratorate's initiation of a public prosecution against a typical case of online defamation victimizing a female citizen.

The work reports of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate both deliberated on the progress made by authorities in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces, as well as Shanghai municipality in integrating legal services throughout the Yangtze River Delta region.
