Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province was ranked third in the list of top 10 Chinese cities in terms of common prosperity.

Released by economist Luo Tianhao, the list was topped by Shaoxing, followed by Foshan, Taizhou, Changzhou, Wuxi, Ningbo, Suzhou, Quanzhou, Zhuhai and Yantai.

All the cities are industrial hubs located along the coast.

The per capita disposable income of Taizhou's urban residents stood at 62,598 yuan ($9,630) in 2020, while the figure for rural residents reached 32,188 yuan.

The ratio between the per capita disposable income of its urban and rural residents stood at 1.94, ranking eighth among the 10 cities.

The gap in per capita GDP is another indicator used to measure a location's wealth geographical distribution.

Among the top 10 cities, Taizhou had the smallest gap between its two administrative areas with the highest and lowest per capita GDP.

Last year, Luqiao district had a per capita GDP of 106,400 yuan while Linhai, a county-level city from the city, had the lowest at 66,300 yuan.

Taizhou has a robust private sector, which accounts for the lion's share of the city's economic output. Official data shows that the city's GDP surpassed 500 billion yuan in 2020, with nearly 80 percent contributed by private companies.

The city now has 20-plus industrial clusters each with an annual output value of more than 10 billion yuan. It is a national manufacturing hub for sewing machines, non-stick pans and intelligent toilets.

A quarter of the population in Taizhou own a car and one in every 32 people runs a business.
