The grand ceremony paying tribute to Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor, the legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation, will be held on Oct 14 at the Xiandu Scenic Spot in Jinyun county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – according to local media reports.

The legendary ancestor Xuanyuan – Huangdi's given name – is also known as the founder of the Chinese civilization. For a long time, Zhejiang has attached great importance to the study of Huangdi culture.

Jinyun is widely recognized as playing an important part in the spread of Huangdi culture from north to south. The tradition to worship Huangdi has been passed on for more than 1,600 years in Jinyun.

In 1998, after the reconstruction of the ancestral temple of Huangdi, the ceremony was revived and in 2011 it was listed on the national intangible cultural heritage list.

Due to its profound history, the Xiandu Scenic Spot was approved as an official venue for cultural exchanges between Chinese mainland and Taiwan this year.
