Samen county, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang recently entered the harvest season for tangerines.

The orchards growing the fruit in the county currently cover about 80,000 mu (5,333.3 hectares), accounting for 6 percent of Zhejiang's total.

Ke Long, who runs an agricultural cooperative in Sanmen, said that their 300-mu tangerine orchard is expected to produce over 500,000 kilograms of tangerines worth 2.5 million yuan ($384,615) this year.

In addition to offline sales, the cooperative's store on Taobao, an online marketplace by Alibaba, is expected to rake in sales of more than 700,000 yuan, according to Ke.

Sanmen has succeeded in expanding the fruit's sales channels in recent years.

Tangerines from the county have been put on the shelves of Hema Fresh stores in cities like Shanghai and Hangzhou, with combined sales surpassing 100,000 kilograms annually.

Hosts have also been invited to promote the fruit via livestreams on platforms including Douyin and Taobao.

Due to favorable soil conditions and pleasant climate, tangerines produced from Sanmen are seedless, juicy, thin-skinned and bright in color.
