A Yueju Opera about modern urban life has won plaudits among local audiences in Zhejiang recently.

The opera, titled Qiantangli, meaning "life in Qiantang", is the first production by the Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yueju Opera Troupe that is themed on contemporary urban life.

The Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yueju Opera Troupe is a well-known professional women's Yueju Opera performance group in China that has participated in many international cultural exchange activities.

While the production features original Yueju Opera singing, almost every other aspect has been changed. For example, the director has even introduced elements of drama and musicals into the play.

As one of the five major opera genres in China, Yueju Opera is listed as an intangible cultural heritage.

To many, the popularity of Qiantangli has demonstrated the vitality of Yueju Opera and the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
