Authorities in East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 16 held a ceremony in Cangnan, Wenzhou to launch the "GM2D Online" digital application.

GM2D is a global initiative issued by GS1 at the end of 2020. The initiative aims to promote the global transition from bar code to commodity QR code by 2027, realize the reading and analysis of commodity QR code, achieve the interconnection of data and information among industries, and provide consumers and enterprises with better and more comprehensive services.

Zhejiang province is the first GM2D demonstration area in the world.

To date, "GM2D Online" has connected more than 130 digital applications, developed and integrated more than 50 functions, collected 176 products in 31 categories and activated 51,080 market entities.

Zhejiang authorities said they will continue to strengthen talent support, coordinate resources and promote the high-quality construction of the GM2D demonstration zone.
