Eight cities in East China's Zhejiang province - Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Wenzhou, Taizhou and Jinhua – have been listed among China's top 100 cities in terms of advanced manufacturing in 2022.

The list was released by the Research Center of Intelligent Equipment Industry of CCID Consulting.

Hangzhou and Ningbo were ranked fifth and sixth respectively. Ningbo was ranked first alongside Shenzhen in terms of the number of new enterprises in China.

Ningbo has in recent years been optimizing its industrial structure and made remarkable progress in fields like semiconductor, automobile industry and consumer electronics.

In 2021, there were 25 enterprises in Ningbo with an annual output value of more than 10 billion yuan ($1.43 billion). The city was also home to 17 of China's top 500 manufacturing enterprises, more than 100 domestic and overseas listed manufacturing enterprises, and 3,919 effective high-tech enterprises.

Unlike Ningbo, which is focused on becoming an advanced, world-class manufacturing base, Hangzhou has mainly focused on the implementation of its new intelligent manufacturing plan.

In 2021, the added value of Hangzhou's manufacturing industry, the core industry of Hangzhou's digital economy above the designated size, grew 16.4 percent year on year, 5.8 percentage points higher than the growth rate of Hangzhou's industries above the designated size.

The added value of the city's computer communication electronics manufacturing industry and pharmaceutical manufacturing industry increased by 18.0 percent and 18.1 percent year-on-year respectively.

In addition to Hangzhou and Ningbo, the advanced manufacturing industries in Shaoxing and other cities have also seen significant growth, which is reflected by their top 50 rankings.
