The ancient city of Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province experienced a boom in tourism during the 5-day May Day holiday, local media reported on May 4.

According to the Keqiao district bureau of culture, radio, television, tourism and sports, Keqiao's key tourist attractions received 344,600 visitors during the holiday, a year-on-year increase of 600.81 percent, and brought in total revenue of 26.65 million yuan ($3.85 million), up 425.79 percent from the same period last year. The district's tourism revenue reached 730 million yuan.

Statistics from Yuecheng district showed that as of May 3, the district had received 1.16 million visitors during the holiday, a year-on-year increase of 131 percent, with total tourism revenue of 1.23 billion yuan, up 110 percent from the same period last year.

The influx of tourists has also boosted the hotel and catering industry.
