Quzhou sets new Guinness World Record

Quzhou held the opening ceremony of the first Quzhou Go School League and Guinness Challenge at the Quzhou Sports Center Stadium on Oct 28.

A total of 5,290 young players from various primary schools and kindergartens in the city played Go at the same time, breaking the previous record of 1,000 people set by Japan. The Guinness World Records official announced the certification results and awarded Quzhou a new Guinness World Record title on the same day.

The event was a team competition, divided into a primary school group and kindergarten group. The competition was divided into six districts, and the top two teams from the primary school group and kindergarten group in each district advanced to the finals, which will be held in November.

The event aimed to showcase Quzhou's Go culture achievements and bring Go culture to campuses. Quzhou has been attaching great importance to Go, has hosted many international and domestic competitions and has an number of Go training bases.

There are currently 488 schools in the city with a Go course system, equipped with 237 dedicated Go classrooms. There are 43 full-time Go teachers and 265 part-time Go teachers. More than 7,000 students have different Go grades.
