Zhejiang airports handle 1.33m passengers over holiday

Zhejiang province's seven airports moved over 1.33 million passengers during the May Day holiday, a 10.2 percent increase from last year, according to the Zhejiang Provincial Airport Group on May 6.

Flight operations reached 8,840, with the busiest day on May 1, hitting 282,400 passengers, which was slightly shy of the record.

Hangzhou International Airport processed 734,700 passengers with 4,575 flights, up 7.14 percent and 3.02 percent year-on-year. To handle demand, airports worked with airlines to add wide-body aircraft on crowded routes.

Taizhou Luqiao Airport saw the most growth, up 42 percent from last year. Ningbo Lishe and Zhoushan Putuoshan airports also grew significantly, at 13.24 percent and 18.22 percent. On April 30, Taizhou and Yiwu airports hit their highest single-day passenger numbers.

Hangzhou ranked in the top 10 nationwide for both domestic and international flight volumes. Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Wenzhou airports saw strong demand for international travel, mainly to Osaka, Tokyo, Seoul, and Bangkok, driven by families and group travelers.
