Quzhou's Kaihua pursues path to common prosperity
Nestling at the source of the Qiantang River, Kaihua county in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province is transforming itself into a model of common prosperity.
Despite its geographical challenges, the county has embraced eco-friendly development, rural prosperity, and strategic industrial development to create a workable and efficient path forward for its high-quality development.
Two decades ago, Jinxing village in Huabu town was a small village with inadequate infrastructure. The village's shift to green development was marked by a reform in forest rights in 2008. Today, it thrives on ecotourism, boasting 24 homestays and farmstays and an annual collective income that exceeds 2 million yuan ($277,914).
Kaihua's commitment to ecological integrity is evident in its designation as a national ecological civilization demonstration area and its achievements in sustainable agriculture.
The county's brand, Qianjiangyuan, integrates local products like Longding tea and organic honey, generating sales of over 200 million yuan each year.
Innovative agricultural practices, such as developing sericulture in Xidong village, have revitalized local economies. In addition, the village's cooperative model ensures a steady income for farmers and boosts collective earnings.
Kaihua's industrial landscape is also evolving, with Zhejiang Kayou Technology leading the collectible cards industry. The company's digital factory and significant contribution to local GDP highlight Kaihua's industrial innovation.
By integrating its digital economy strategies, Kaihua is enhancing traditional industries and expanding e-commerce. The county achieved a total of 2.44 billion yuan in online retail sales in 2024, a 31.4 percent year-on-year increase.
