The film Resurrection, produced by Shan Zuolong — a native of Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province — recently clinched the Jury Special Prize at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.

It's the first time in a decade that a Chinese-language film has won an award in Cannes' prestigious main competition category and it was the only Chinese entry in the competition at Cannes for the Palme d'Or — the highest prize awarded to best film — this year.

The film has captivated the international film community with its unique artistic expression and profound humanistic themes, earning widespread acclaim.

Born in 1988 in Shuanglin town in Huzhou's Nanxun district, Shan studied journalism at Zhejiang University of Technology and later earned a master's degree in documentary filmmaking from Tongji University.

His early education at Shuanglin Middle School sparked his interest in the arts, with the rich cultural heritage of Shuanglin ancient town providing inspiration for his creative endeavors.

With over a decade of experience in the film industry, Shan has established himself as a producer and documentary director. In 2015, he began collaborating with the director of Resurrection Bi Gan and together they founded Dangmai Films — a partnership that has produced some internationally acclaimed films.
