A cross-cultural poetry and prose recital in remembrance of Lu Xun and Maxim Gorky, two great masters of literature from China and Russia, was held at the Hangzhou Senior High School in Qiantang district, Hangzhou, on May 29.

Lu Xun's grandson, Zhou Lingfei, shared insights into the writer's family legacy and literary values, while Gorky's descendants recited and discussed works like The Song of the Stormy Petrel and Childhood, highlighting their historical context.

Students from local schools also performed readings inspired by both authors, reflecting the lasting dialogue between the Chinese and Russian cultures.

The event is part of Qiantang district's broader poetry education initiative, launched in 2022. The district has built literary education bases, hosted the "Qiantang River Poetry Season", and invited 26 renowned poets — including six Lu Xun Literature Prize winners — to mentor students. Public poetry classes, teacher training, and regional outreach have further expanded the program's influence.

Recognized as a key project of East China's Zhejiang province for the year of 2025, Qiantang's poetry education model is now being promoted across the province, offering a replicable path for cultivating cultural literacy among young people.
