East China's Zhejiang province has made significant strides in green power purchases.

The total amount of green electricity purchased through inter-provincial markets reached 1.38 billion kWh in the first half of 2025, according to data from the Zhejiang Power Exchange Center on July 8. This represents a nearly 1.5-fold increase compared to the 574 million kWh purchased in all of 2024.

In the first half of this year, Zhejiang organized 15 inter-provincial green electricity trading sessions, which not only helped ensure the province's power supply but also contributed to the ongoing low-carbon transformation of its energy structure.

To further increase green energy procurement, Zhejiang optimized electricity consumption during periods with excess capacity, facilitating wind power deliveries from Heilongjiang province and solar power deliveries during midday hours. This effort resulted in the purchase of an additional 450 million kWh of green electricity.

The demand for green power primarily comes from foreign trade companies and high-energy-consuming industries. As countries around the world implement carbon reduction targets, multinational corporations are increasingly focused on reducing carbon emissions within their supply chains.

According to the State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co, the company will continue to strengthen cooperation with renewable energy-rich provinces in North China, exploring the remaining transmission capacity of ultra-high-voltage channels and organizing further inter-provincial green power purchases to meet growing demand.
