Ningbo, Zhejiang province, welcomed its first Malaysian study group under the new China-Malaysia visa-free policy, opening a new chapter in cultural and educational exchange.
On July 20, 55 students and teachers from Malaysia visited the China Marine Fishing Museum in Shipu town, diving into the theme of ancient shipbuilding. Guided by local experts, the group explored the evolution of maritime design, constructed wooden model boats, and gained insight into the ingenuity and courage of traditional Chinese fishermen.
Students were impressed by the immersive exhibits that blended modern technology with historical artifacts. One participant noted the tranquil charm of Shipu as a fishing town and and observed that compared to Malaysian villages, these boats were much larger and operated under a structured system of closed and open fishing seasons.
The two-day program left a lasting impression, not only for its educational depth but also for the local cuisine.
The group's weeklong journey in Ningbo will continue with themes ranging from cultural heritage to ecological preservation and innovation, offering Malaysian youth a firsthand experience of the city's maritime legacy and modern development.
