Huzhou Ecological ID system promotes sustainable practices
Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province has launched the innovative Huzhou Ecological ID system, which is designed to promote sustainable practices.
It caters to both individuals and businesses and is part of the 20th-anniversary celebrations of the country's green development philosophy that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.
The system aims to promote sustainable practices by offering rewards for environmentally friendly actions. It functions as a digital account based on individual and corporate identity information.

For residents, it tracks green activities like low-carbon travel and waste sorting, converting them into "carbon reduction credits" and "green coins". These can be redeemed for benefits and discounts on public services.
"With this ID, every green action I take feels like a rewarding challenge, making sustainable living more engaging," said Shen Shu, a Huzhou resident.
For businesses, the Ecological ID represents an upgrade from the previous "Industrial Carbon Efficiency Code". It now evaluates carbon efficiency across various sectors, including energy, logistics, construction, and agriculture. The system links carbon efficiency ratings to financial policies, encouraging greener business practices.
Zhejiang Anji Changyun Automobile Transportation Company recently obtained its Ecological ID, earning a top-tier low-carbon rating. General Manager Zhao Chunlian said, "We previously lacked clear insight into our carbon emissions. This ID provides transparent and dynamic ratings, encouraging us to further embrace green production."
