The musical Nan Kong is set to begin its Singapore and Malaysia tours from Oct 24 to 28.

As the first stage production centered on Southern Confucian culture, the musical explores the moral and philosophical legacy of Confucianism through the story of Kong Shu, the 53rd-generation descendant of Confucius, who chose to relinquish his noble title and move south to Quzhou in Zhejiang province.

The production not only revives this little-known chapter of Confucian family history but also embodies the enduring spirit of Confucius through a narrative rooted in Quzhou's deep cultural traditions.

One of the most striking characters in the play is Kublai Khan, the famous Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) emperor. His evolving conflict and eventual reconciliation with Kong add emotional depth to the story.

In the revised script for the tours, Kublai's growing understanding of Kong's integrity and loyalty leads him to respect the scholar's decision and allow his return home. It is a gesture symbolizing mutual recognition and moral enlightenment.
