Siming Wenku debuts at Frankfurt Book Fair, showcasing Ningbo's cultural legacy
The Siming Wenku series, the largest local literature project in Ningbo's history, was unveiled at the Frankfurt Book Fair on Oct 15.
The collection drew significant attention from both the international publishing community and academia, earning high praise from China's Ambassador to Germany, Deng Hongbo.
Visitors to the fair admired the elegantly bound volumes. "These texts carry the weight of history — they make me want to visit Ningbo, a city where tradition and modernity coexist," said one German reader.
As one of the fair's featured events, a donation ceremony of the Siming Wenku series and cultural exchange event was held at Goethe University Frankfurt, where the university's Faculty of Linguistics, Cultures and Arts formally accepted the donation.
Professor Yang Zhiyi highlighted the collection's academic value, linking it to eastern Zhejiang's intellectual heritage, including figures like Wang Yangming and Zhu Shunshui.
Dean Anja Kloeckner emphasized the faculty's commitment to sharing Siming Wenku with German sinologists and using it in Chinese language and cultural education.
The collection, often called Ningbo's version of the Siku Quanshu (a comprehensive collection of Chinese traditional culture), is a major cultural initiative led by the Ningbo government. Since its launch in 2021, 342 classical works have been published, with 500 titles planned by the end of 2025.
