Lou Zhongmin, a municipal representative inheritor of Dongyang bamboo weaving from Jinhua, Zhejiang province, captivated global audiences with his exquisite craftsmanship and the timeless charm of bamboo art at the ASEAN Arts & Crafts Bazaar, held from Oct 10 to 20 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Lou brought a complete set of tools and over 10 bamboo-weaved vessels that are practical in everyday life and align with international consumer preferences.

His participation was recommended by Lu Guanghua — a provincial inheritor of Dongyang bamboo weaving — and approved by the China Arts and Crafts Association, reflecting the industry's high regard for his skills.

Lu said that these practical bamboo weaving pieces are very popular abroad, making Dongyang bamboo weaving a part of international consumers' lives.

On-site, Lou demonstrated the entire bamboo weaving process and led hands-on workshops for overseas youths, answering questions with the help of translation tools.

Two of Lou's pieces, a sewing box basket and a fruit basket, were acquired by local collectors, earning him an honorary certificate from the organizers.

This exhibition not only highlighted the artistic value of Dongyang bamboo weaving but also demonstrated its market potential, paving the way for further international market exploration, said Lu.
