Pujiang China Painting and Calligraphy Art Week, along with the Ten Thousand Years of Pujiang — 2025 Chinese Painting Exhibition, opened on Nov 15 in Pujiang, Jinhua of Zhejiang province.
Over the two-week period, 40 events across four major sections will be staged, ranging from high-end exhibitions featuring original works by renowned artists to academic forums encouraging cultural and artistic dialogue. Visitors can also explore antique markets and enjoy interactive cultural activities.
A local official said the event combines cultural heritage with contemporary trends, breaking new ground in content presentation, form, and value. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first China Painting and Calligraphy Festival in Pujiang. Pujiang's long-standing tradition of exhibitions has given it a distinctive place in the Chinese painting world and reinforced painting and calligraphy as a key part of its cultural identity.
With a history of over 1,800 years, Pujiang is widely known as a hometown of painting and calligraphy. Since the Song Dynasty (960-1279), more than 250 painters and calligraphers from Pujiang have been recorded. In modern times, masters such as Zhang Shiqi, Wu Fuzhi and Liu Cun, each developed distinctive styles. Recently, artists including Ma Fenghui, Chen Qi, and Luo Xianyue have gained recognition, and the local painting culture continues to thrive.
This year's art week also introduces diverse market-oriented activities, including art auctions and antique exchange fairs. Multiple private art galleries are coordinating exhibitions and sales, connecting culture with commerce.
