Zhejiang posts steady gains with signs of new growth momentum

Zhejiang's economy remained stable while showing fresh growth momentum in the first 11 months of the year, according to data released by the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Statistics on Dec 19.

From January to November, the province's total imports and exports reached 5.06 trillion yuan ($710 billion), up 5.3 percent year-on-year. Imports totaled 1.23 trillion yuan, edging up 0.1 percent.

Private enterprises continued to play a central role. Their combined imports and exports rose 7.0 percent to 4.16 trillion yuan, accounting for 82.1 percent of the province's total imports and exports, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from a year earlier.

Domestic consumption also showed steady improvement. Retail sales of consumer goods climbed 4.4 percent year-on-year to 3.57 trillion yuan in the January-November period, while the consumer price index fell 0.1 percent, indicating broadly stable prices.

Transport activity expanded in parallel with economic growth. Passenger volume and passenger turnover both increased 3.7 percent over the first 11 months. Freight volume rose 8.4 percent, and freight turnover grew 8.8 percent, underscoring resilient logistics demand.
