Deputy proposes enhancing Jinhua as key hub for China-Europe Railway Express
The China-Europe Railway Express, known as the "Iron Camel" on the New Silk Road, is not only a trade route connecting Asia and Europe but also a strategic artery for Zhejiang province's high-level opening up.
As the fourth session of the 14th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress is ongoing, Zheng Gongmin, deputy to the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress and director of the Jinhua development and reform commission, proposed strengthening support for the Jinhua (Yiwu) hub to make it a central part of Zhejiang's global economic cooperation.
Jinhua (Yiwu) China-Europe freight train service is currently transitioning from a single railway line into a national hub, crucial for stabilizing international supply chains. Zheng noted that it lags in infrastructure capacity compared with hubs such as Xi'an and Chengdu-Chongqing, indicating potential to increase its annual transport capacity.
To bridge this gap, Zheng proposed enhancing the hub's openness by hosting the China Railway Express Cooperation Forum. This would boost Zhejiang's participation in global dialogues and enhance the international influence of the Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe (YXE) brand.
Zheng also stressed the importance of cultivating a market-driven and internationalized operational ecosystem, calling for deeper market reforms at the Jinhua (Yiwu) hub to make the YXE brand globally competitive in operational efficiency, logistics costs, and customs convenience.
