Jinhua bobsleigh athlete Ye Jielong selected for Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics
Ye Jielong, a bobsleigh athlete from Jinhua, Zhejiang province, was selected to join the China delegation for the upcoming Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, as announced by the General Administration of Sport of China on Jan 23.
Born in 2000 in Yongkang, a county-level city in Jinhua, Ye displayed remarkable athletic talent from a young age. Initially, he excelled as a track and field athlete before transitioning to winter sports in May 2018 when he was selected for the national bobsleigh team through a cross-discipline recruitment program.
In 2019, he officially became a national team athlete and won gold at the National Bobsleigh Championship. He also claimed a bronze medal at the 14th National Winter Games in the same year, marking Jinhua's first medal in the event's history.
At the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Ye and his teammates finished 17th in the four-man bobsleigh event, setting a new record for Zhejiang athletes in this discipline. In November 2023, Ye contributed to China's bronze medal win in the four-man bobsleigh at the Yanqing leg of the IBSF World Cup, the first World Cup medal for China's men's bobsleigh team.
The Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics will take place from Feb 6 to 22, featuring eight major sports, 16 disciplines, and 116 events.
