The Chinese Spring Festival Cultural Exhibition opened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Feb 10, presenting traditional Chinese New Year customs and cultural heritage to local audiences.

The exhibition is structured around three dimensions — individual, family, and culture — and is divided into three sections: The Unending Cycle of Time, The World in Family Reunions, and The Everlasting Vitality of Cultural Heritage.

Through displays and multimedia presentations, the event introduces the historical origins and contemporary practices of Spring Festival.

Interactive experiences drew strong interest from visitors. At the Greeting Spring with Ink booth, inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in calligraphy and painting from Pujiang county in Jinhua guided guests in writing Spring Festival couplets.

Participants used writing brushes to inscribe the character fu, meaning auspiciousness, and composed red couplets conveying Chinese New Year blessings, experiencing the techniques and artistic expression of Chinese calligraphy.

The performance area also attracted enthusiastic responses. Longevity Turtle Serves Tea, an excerpt from Wuju Opera that originated in Jinhua, was staged during the event. The performance highlighted the narrative style and stage artistry of traditional Chinese opera through its lively plot and stylized presentation.

The event was hosted by the Information Office of the People's Government of Zhejiang Province and the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the African Union, organized by the Jinhua Municipal People's Government, and supported by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism.
