Zhoushan NPC deputy highlights marine ICH, social inclusion
Xie Li, a deputy to the National People's Congress and vice-general manager of Putuoshan Travel Agency from Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, arrived in Beijing on March 3 ahead of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress, bringing a special collection of luodian (mother-of-pearl inlay crafts) made by children with autism.
Xie first met the children last summer at Putuo Mountain, where they were learning the traditional art. Currently, the children can skillfully create accessories such as hairbands and hairpins by embedding luodian into them. Xie sees this craft as a bridge for integration into society and believes it can empower both intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and social inclusion.
In her suggestion for the National People's Congress, Xie emphasized supporting the advanced preservation and development of marine ICH. She has also worked to market children's handicrafts in collaboration with local businesses, aiming to provide them with opportunities for social participation.
In addition to her focus on ICH, Xie is addressing industry challenges, particularly those related to consumer satisfaction in the tourism market, and has prepared several suggestions on the marine economy, tourism, and healthcare to highlight key issues.
