Guo Wenbiao, a deputy to the National People's Congress and head of the Shitang Marine Safety Volunteer Rescue Station in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has brought items made from marine plastic waste to the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing, with a belief that safeguarding marine ecology is crucial for both human life and future generations.
Guo plans to submit suggestions on strengthening marine waste management to protect the marine ecosystem, showcasing the transformation of plastic waste and demonstrating that what was once discarded can be turned into functional, environmentally friendly products.
He encourages fishermen to bring marine waste ashore, aligning with his broader call for improved incentives to encourage participation in marine conservation. He also suggests that the government increase support for marine protection initiatives and provide more incentives for fishermen to collect and dispose of marine debris.
Guo, who has spent over 40 years rescuing people at sea, has firsthand experience with the challenges of marine waste. His son has now joined the family's marine rescue and conservation efforts, continuing the legacy of protecting the marine environment.
