Jiang Haoran, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of Cashway Fintech, has been focusing on accelerating the large-scale application of high-level autonomous driving technologies.
Jiang said that high-level autonomous driving — including Level 4 (high automation) and Level 5 (full automation) — is approaching a critical stage of commercialization. Chinese autonomous driving companies have already launched fully driverless services in several cities.
However, he said the sector still faces obstacles in scaling up applications, including unclear legal status, limited operating scenarios, the absence of unified access standards, and fragmented infrastructure.
To address these issues, Jiang has been paying attention to improvements across four areas: legislation, application scenarios, standards, and infrastructure. He said high-level autonomous driving could serve as a key breakthrough area, leveraging China's market scale and application scenarios to accelerate technological iteration.
On the standards side, Jiang suggested developing clear criteria for large-scale deployment by referencing operational requirements and market demand in sectors such as taxis, public transportation, logistics, sanitation, and express delivery.
On infrastructure, he mentioned the need to accelerate the development of supporting systems, including unified standards for sensing, communication, and data interfaces. Improving roadside infrastructure and ensuring interoperability would help support the broader deployment of high-level autonomous driving technologies.
