Wang Jian'an, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, president of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been focusing on how advances in medical technology can better benefit the public.

Wang has repeatedly emphasized that the integration of technology and healthcare is driving transformative change in the medical sector, but the ultimate value of medical innovation lies in improving people's well-being.

With decades of experience on the clinical front line, Wang has conducted extensive research on the development of high-end medical devices. He added that China still faces challenges in areas such as the innovation capacity of implantable medical devices, and said stronger support for research institutions and more standardized regulatory and management systems are needed.

This year, Wang is also paying close attention to the development of brain-computer interface technologies. He said national-level guidance on ethical review for such technologies should be introduced, along with mandatory standards for data security and cybersecurity.

He also highlighted the need to build a systematic support framework that combines targeted research programs with platform-based resources, accelerates clinical applications and ecosystem development for brain-computer interfaces, and strengthens the training of interdisciplinary professionals.

Wang said the significance of brain-computer interface technology goes beyond scientific breakthroughs, carrying broader implications for economic transformation, social progress, and human well-being.
