Zhejiang produced over 1.38 million new energy vehicles in 2025, ranking third nationwide and surpassing the one-million mark for the first time.
China's total output of new energy vehicles reached 16 million units in 2025, according to the latest figure released in the 2026 Government Work Report delivered on March 5.
The province's automobile industry has seen rapid growth in the new energy segment. In 2025, Zhejiang's total automobile production reached about 2.26 million units, including over 1.38 million new energy vehicles, meaning NEVs accounted for more than 61 percent of total output.
In other words, roughly six out of every 10 vehicles produced in Zhejiang were new energy vehicles.
Zhang Hong, a member of the expert committee of the China Automobile Dealers Association, said local manufacturers such as Geely and Leapmotor have accelerated their transition to new energy vehicles, improving competitiveness through technological innovation and differentiated products.
He added that Zhejiang's automotive supply chain has also supported the sector's expansion. The province is home to more than 2,500 above-designated-size auto parts enterprises, defined as those with annual revenue of 20 million yuan ($2.86 million) or more, providing strong industrial support for production growth.
