Deputy calls for continued ecological protection and restoration
Xing Zhihong, a deputy to the National People's Congress and director of the Department of Natural Resources of Zhejiang Province, spoke highly of China's draft environmental code, which was reviewed at the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress.
Xing said Zhejiang has promoted integrated protection and systematic governance of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, and deserts. In recent years, ecological protection and restoration efforts have achieved notable results.
He cited the Yunhe Terraces as an example, where ecological self-regulation combined with targeted human intervention has enabled the restoration of terraces while preserving the agricultural landscape.
Drawing on Zhejiang's experience, Xing shared his views on advancing territorial ecological restoration. He suggested adopting a systemic approach that moves beyond managing single elements to build a comprehensive framework for ecological protection and restoration across entire regions, promoting integrated protection, systematic restoration, and coordinated governance of territorial space.
He also suggested innovating diversified investment mechanisms for ecological protection and restoration, and improving the operation of special funds for the ecological restoration industry to better mobilize social capital and market entities to participate in restoration projects.
